WHAT: A video installation/performance by Daphna Lapidot
Daphna Lapidot, visual artist, presents her new work “Wall to Wall”, a video installation and performance that explores the themes of motherhood/domesticity. It is a reflection on the issues that women encounter as new mothers inundated with the perpetual daily routine.
WHO: Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Daphna Lapidot received her M.A. in film studies from Northwestern University in 1991. In 1996, she received her M.F.A. from the Film and Video School at California Institute for the Arts. She is a Fulbright Scholar.
Julien Heron is an actor, performer born in Chartres, France. In 1999, he toured Europe with his performance “The Violinists”. In 2000, he performed for the Cirque Bouglione in “The Voyage of Pan” in Paris. In 2003, he began assisting Director Ibrahim Quraishi in “Landscapes for Argonauts” performed in the Schillertage Festival in Mannheim, Germany and in “Nature and Paradise” performed at the Japan Foundation Theatre in Tokyo. Since 2004, he resides in Los Angeles.
WHAT: Video projections cast onto sheets hanging on a clothesline structure set into the remaining foundation of an old Pasadena house are the backdrop for this performance. Unicycle, plate spinning and a splash of Chianti invite us into the daily life of this duo. This project was commissioned by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division.
